In support of national strategies for ecological civilization and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and to meet the economic and social development priorities of Guangdong Province and Zhuhai City, Beijing Normal University established the Advanced Interdisciplinary Institute of Environment and Ecology (ADIIEE, hereinafter) in April 2021. The establishment of ADIIEE serves as a pivotal step in advancing the university’s commitment to the “Double First-Class” initiative and the strategic implementation of its “One University, Two Campuses” framework.

In alignment with the national strategies to build a world leader in education, science and technology, and talent development and in support of the “Beautiful China” and “Healthy China” initiatives, Beijing Normal University approved the establishment of the School of Technology for Sustainability (BNU-TecS) in October 2024. This strategic move also contributes to the high-quality, green development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the modernization of Guangdong Province. The founding of BNU-TecS represents the university’s commitment to the strategic goals set forth in its Fourteenth Party Congress, particularly the advancement of engineering disciplines and the strengthening of interdisciplinary and frontier disciplines. The school is focused on advancing the frontiers of future-oriented technologies characterized by originality, interdisciplinary, and disruptive technological innovation, with a mission to cultivate forward-thinking leaders in technological innovation for sustainable development. Both BNU-TecS and the ADIIEE are based at the Zhuhai Campus.

Guided by the critical scientific challenges that constrain the harmonious coexistence of humanity and nature, BNU-TecS and ADIIEE are dedicated to advancing the development of green, low-carbon, healthy, and intelligent technologies that support the sustainable development of human society. By promoting interdisciplinary integration across environmental resources, ecological life sciences, system science, artificial intelligence, and engineering technology, we aim to pioneer revolutionary and disruptive technologies innovations. Our mission is to cultivate top-tier, innovative talents in interdisciplinary engineering, contribute significantly to the University’s efforts to build a world-class cluster of disciplines in the field of ecological civilization and green development. We aim to make significant contribution to the sustainable development of the Greater Bay Area and the nation.
